Our 2011 Vail season opens with the incomparable pianist Yuja Wang, who must be heard live to be believed. Don’t miss a rare opportunity to see this renowned performer, who the New York Times says “seems to have everything: speed, flexibility, pianistic thunder and interpretive nuance.” Her program will include works by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel, Albéniz and Scriabin. We know you’ll agree with the Detroit News, who calls Yuja Wang “simply the most important new pianist to appear in recent years, period.”
ABOUT THE GUEST ARTISTS
With playing that has been described as remarkable for its sensitivity, fluidity and virtuosity, as well as a technique that is not only “flawless” but “effortless,” 24-year-old Yuja Wang’s rapid rise to stardom has been spectacular. Since her first appearance in Swasey Chapel in 2004, Yuja has toured extensively around the world, performing with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and conductors to great acclaim. Her most recent recording of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a collaboration with Maestro Claudio Abbado and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, was named to NPR Classical’s Best Albums of the Year list. We are thrilled to have her back at Denison for her fifth visit, just prior to her Carnegie Hall debut.
